Worldwide integrated infrastructure and platforms revenue surpasses $1.9 billion

Worldwide integrated infrastructure and platforms revenue surpasses $1.9 billion

IDC distinguishes between integrated platforms and integrated infrastructure. Integrated platforms are integrated systems that are sold with additional software and customized system engineering. Integrated infrastructure systems are designed for distributed workloads that have differing performance profiles. Although integrated infrastructure will leverage the same infrastructure building blocks as integrated platform, it is not optimized for a specific workload.

IDC defines integrated infrastructure and platforms as pre-integrated, vendor-certified systems containing server hardware, disk storage systems, networking equipment, and basic element/systems management software. IDC includes embedded or integrated management and control software optimized for the auto discovery, provisioning, and pooling of physical and virtual compute, storage, and networking resources.

During the first quarter of 2014, the integrated platforms market generated revenues of $769.6 million, an 8.3% year-over-year growth rate and 39.5% of the total market value. Oracle supplied $369.0 million in sales of integrated platform systems, or 48% share of the market segment.

According to IDC’s Worldwide Integrated Infrastructure & Platforms Tracker, the top three worldwide integrated platforms vendors for the first quarter of 2014 are Oracle, IBM and HP, with revenues of $369 million, $74.3 million and $15.5 million respectively. Integrated infrastructure sales grew 69.4% year over year in the first quarter of 2014, generating nearly $1.2 billion worth of sales. FlexPod by Cisco/NetApp was the top supplier of integrated infrastructure in this quarter, with revenues of $268.4 million.

The top three worldwide integrated infrastructure vendors for the same quarter are Cisco/NetApp, VCE, EMC, with revenues $268.4 million, $254.3 million and $179.9 million respectively.
