The new version of Wind River’s VxWorks RTOS will include the Virtualization Profile, a feature designed to increase the scalability of the VxWorks 7 Core Platform. The Virtualization Profile incorporates a real-time embedded Type 1 hypervisor in to the heart of the RTOS, which will provide support for devices enabled for IoT.
“VxWorks with integrated virtualization allows customers to address IoT device challenges, where connectivity, scalability, security, and future-proofing are required,” Dinyar Dastoor, vice president of product management at Wind River said in a press release. “It delivers the key benefits that will give our customers a competitive edge in consolidation, flexibility, safety, and security, as well as CAPEX and OPEX savings, and significant reduction in development time for end devices. We see a strong need for these capabilities across all market segments, but with an emphasis where connectivity is now requisite, such as in industrial, medical, aerospace and defense.”
VxWorks’ new version has been restructured to facilitate the separation of the core operating system from file systems or network stacks. These updates allow for easier adjustments to market changes and individual applications to be updated at will without retesting the entire system.
