VMware introduces Workstation 11 and Player 7 Pro

VMware introduces Workstation 11 and Player 7 Pro

Workstation 11 offers Windows 10 Tech Preview and cloud connectivity with VMware vCloud Air for the integration of computing environments.

“VMware Workstation pioneered the virtualization industry 15 years ago and countless industries and professionals have since used the solution to effectively help modernize the workplace,” said Nicolas Rochard, director of product marketing, End-User Computing, VMware, in a press release. “VMware Workstation 11 will be the ultimate Swiss army knife that helps developers and IT administrators extend their virtual environments from their laptops, to the data centre and the public cloud.”

VMware Workstation 11 will provide support that technical professionals need when working with virtual machines. With support for Windows’ latest version, Linux and connectivity to vCloud Air, the company believes VMware Workstation will be a good tool to increase productivity.

More than 200 operating systems can be run, including Windows 10 Tech Preview, Windows 2012 R2 for servers, Ubuntu 14.10 and Debian 7.6. The Workstation will support Intel 64-bit x86 processors. With Haswell extensions, the solution will improve CPU intensive operations up to 45 percent, like encryption/decryption, and other strenuous performance tests. IT administrators can create virtual machines with up to 16 vCPUs, 8 TB virtual disks and up to 64 GB of memory.

Connection to vSphere or vCloud Air will be available to scale virtual machines. Developers can connect to VMware vCloud Air and upload and view virtual machines from the Workstation interface. They can drag and drop virtual machines between a PC and a private cloud running vSphere or ESXi.

Player 7 Pro
Player 7 Pro will be an updated streamlined desktop virtualization solution. Users can run different operating systems on the same computer. With support and compatibility with Fusion 7 Pro and Workstation 11, the solution will make it easier for IT professionals.

Player 7 Pro will run on the latest releases of Windows, including Windows 8.1, and will support Windows XP and Windows 7. The player will be optimized for the latest PC laptops and tablets and can run on restricted virtual machines created by Workstation 11 or Fusion 7 Pro.

System Requirements
The Workstation 11 and Player 7 Pro require 64 bit processor and 64 bit host OS for advanced computing.

Workstation 10 and Player 6 Plus are available between October 2014 and December 2014 along with a free electronic upgrade to Workstation 11 and Player 7 Pro respectively.
