VMware announces vCloud Air Network and rebrands vCloud Hybrid Services

The vCloud Air Network is an expansion of VMware’s Service Provider Program.

The company also announced that it has rebranded its VMware vCloud hybrid service as VMware vCloud Air. VMware belives the rebranding will emphasize its focus on value added as-a-service solutions such as IaaS, Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS) and Disaster Recovery-as-a-service. The company will bear the “Air” brand suffix for future as-a-service offerings.

VMware vCloud Air has expanded its hybrid cloud business in North American, Europe and the Asia-Pacific after its launch in 2013. In the U.S., Britain and Japan, VMware has eight data centres and has announced cloud expansion via a project with SoftBank Telecom Corporation and SoftBank Commerce and Service Corporation.

“We continue to see tremendous momentum for VMware vCloud Air as more and more businesses look to capitalize on the undeniable operational and economic benefits of hybrid cloud,” said Bill Fathers, EVP and GM, Hybrid Cloud Services Business Unit, in a press release. “The VMware vCloud Air Network represents another key element of our cloud strategy – enabling customer choice and flexibility to find the ideal, local cloud service based on industry leading VMware technology. Our customers can focus their resources on growing their business, knowing that by using VMware vCloud Air or one of our vCloud Air Network partners, their IT team can seamlessly and securely extend their data centres and applications to the cloud.”

VMware says cloud service providers have more flexible options to choose from with vCloud Air Network from either vCloud Air or vCloud Air Network partners. VMware vSphere-based vendors are designated “IaaS powered,” those using vCloud Director as “hybrid cloud powered” and use bi-directional workflow, and desktop service deployments are supported by “Horizon DaaS powered” providers. To bring in more future VCloud Air services, VMware plans to offer future badge validations.

Air Network benefits
This network offers vertical market specializations, self-service and compliance certification management. Local vCloud Air data centres provide data sovereignty and customers can transition from on-premises to the cloud.
