Toshiba’s new Chromebook weighs just 3.3 pounds, with a 1366 x 768 screen resolution, a nine-hour battery life, and a 13.3-inch diagonal HD display. Priced at a relatively low $279.99, the Chromebook will be available for purchase from US retailers beginning in February.
The Chrome OS device is being advertised as a device for both work and play, available in a travel-friendly size. With new features, the company says the Chromebook offers more room for web browsing, documents and apps than a tablet, and is better suited for work with its physical keyboard. The aim is to make the Chromebook an attractive choice as a second device for when you’re on the go – one that’s much cheaper than a tablet and more portable than a laptop.
“We see great potential in Chrome OS as it offers both consumers and educators a simple and easy-to-use computing experience,” commented Carl Pinto, vice president of marketing, Toshiba America Information Systems, Digital Products Division. “We believe that bringing a more versatile 13-inch model to market will help drive the entire category forward by giving customers an option that opens new doors for productivity, not only for consumers, but also students and educators.”
The Chromebook will also have a number of apps such as Gmail, Calendar and Docs that enable users to keep working even when not connected. The device is equipped with 100GB Google Drive storage that can be easily synced, shared and accessed across other devices. This easy sharing allows for better collaboration and productivity, both in schools and the workplace.
“The Toshiba Chromebook will super-charge productivity for consumers, schools and businesses, with its 13-inch screen and long battery life,” said Caesar Sengupta, vice president of product management, Google. “With this new addition to the Chromebook family, consumers have even more choices at very affordable prices.”
The Toshiba Chromebook will be available at major retailers, e-tailers, and directly from Toshiba’s website beginning February 16, 2014.
