In a study conducted by IHS and Dell, which ranked 50 cities from around the world that are embracing technology to adapt and thrive in an ever-changing and globalized future, Toronto, the only city in Canada in this group was listed at 11.
This study was based on attributes that enable people and organizations to access new tools and ideas that deliver better connectivity, better economic performance and a greater ability to attract talent. In conducting this study, cities were evaluated in three areas: human capital, infrastructure and commerce.
In a future-ready economy, equipping people with the right skills to drive social and economic change is vital and also equally important is having the infrastructure in place to support people, organizations and technology to enable progress over time. But having these two areas in place are not enough, a future-ready economy must sustain opportunities for businesses to accelerate innovation, growth and profitability as well.
Having these vital resources in place make a city ready to embrace transformation, which is needed to keep abreast with changing global economy.
“We live in a digital age in which the power of innovation to transform our world is all around us,” said Kevin Peesker, president, Dell Canada Inc. “Our cities are faced with new challenges every day—from supporting a growing population and building a thriving culture, to fueling economic opportunity for everyone. By understanding Future-Ready Economies and their attributes, cities, businesses and people can create policies and strategies that will enable them to prosper and achieve strong economic health.”
