The Waterloo-based mobile phone service provider TextNow has appointed Lindsay Gibson, Blackberry’s former VP of Manufacturing & Supply Chain, as their new COO.
“With TextNow’s recent growth trajectory and corporate expansion, we need to continue to build a very strong team to support every aspect of our business,” said Derek Ting, CEO and co-founder of TextNow.
Gibson will certainly make a powerful addition to the team. Throughout her 16 years at Blackberry, Gibson scaled the marketing and business ranks. Some of her successes have included growing the sales of Blackberry’s e-commerce channel by 275 per cent year-over-year.
Ting cites this impressive record as a major asset for TextNow.
“Lindsay’s stellar accomplishments at BlackBerry make her the perfect candidate to help us focus on both the TextNow customer experience and corporate growth as we continue to expand,” he says.
As for Gibson, she sees TextNow as an opportunity for entrepreneurial experience.
“Having spent my entire career working for a global corporate company, I’m attracted to beginning this new path working for an entrepreneurial venture like TextNow whose primary goal is to provide the most affordable and user friendly wireless service to its users,” says Gibson.
Earlier this year, Blackberry laid off approximately 200 workers from its Waterloo location as part of its turnaround plan.
TextNow, meanwhile, is in the midst of an expansion to the U.S., where they have secured an office in San Fransisco and several other key hires. This year, the company was selected as one of Canada’s Top Small & Medium Employers.
