Symantec launches security product for small businesses

Symantec launches security product for small businesses

“One big descriptor for SMBs are that they’re very time-starved,” said Anne O’Neill, senior director, marketing, North America Consumer and Small Business, Symantec. “Time is precious to them. They want to get in and out and be efficient in their interactions.

“SMBs account for 30 per cent of attacks in 2013. They don’t have time to deal with security because they have more pressing concerns. They need simple, easy to use products.”

Symantec recently released Norton Small Business to simplify security management for SMBs with fewer than 20 employees. The solution protects multiple devices, including PCs, Macs, Android smartphones and tablets, iPhones and iPads, and business owners can easily activate the software through a simple online process.

“It’s easy to deploy. The owner…can go in and select the individual whose device they’d like to have protected,” said O’Neill. “They put in that [individual’s] email address, the individual receives the email and can then deploy the solution on their device.

“If that person leaves [the company], in the same management console the owner can remove those entitlements and transfer them to another employee.”

Owners can also add additional devices, as needed, through the same process.

The product is powered by Symantec Insights and SONAR behaviour-based technology, and the company guarantees 100 per cent virus removal. If business owners are disappointed with the product’s performance, Symantec will give them their money back, said O’Neill.

Norton Small Business is available through a flexible subscription model. It costs $99 annually to protect five devices, $199 annually for 10, and $399 annually for 20 devices. Each additional device costs $20 per year to secure.

The product is available not only through value-added resellers, but also through online and retail shops.
