The reason for this according to Jeffrey Snover, Technical Fellow, Microsoft Enterprise Cloud Group is “to deliver management tools that empower customers to manage any platform, from anywhere, on any device, using Linux or Windows.”
PowerShell is a task-based command-line shell and scripting language to help IT professionals control and automate the administration of Windows and the applications that run on it. With this move, PowerShell is now available for Linux and Mac OS and the alpha versions can be downloaded from GitHub.
