Dell to launch new devices in Rugged Extreme portfolio

The Dell Latitude 12 Rugged Extreme and the Latitude 14 Rugged Extreme are capable of withstanding hazards such as dust, drops, moisture, and vibration, and are well-suited for the military, public safety, first response, and manufacturing industries.

The devices are built with materials such as impact-resistant ultra-polymers and magnesium alloy, and have been subjected to rigorous durability tests according to military standards, including six-foot drops and emissions and hazardous materials certifications.

“With new ground-up design and industry-first innovations, the Latitude 12 and 14 Rugged Extreme mark the beginning of a renewed and expanded commitment by Dell to the rugged space,” said Kirk Schell, VP, commercial PCs, client solutions group, Dell. “The Rugged Extreme line is backed by the Latitude promise of reliable, secure and manageable commercial PCs and can move easily from the boardroom to the battlefield or wherever the job takes you—an assurance unmatched by the competition.”

In addition to robust casing, the devices feature a Direct-View display that reduces glare in bright sunlight, docking commonality across the entire Rugged Extreme portfolio, a backlit keyboard that can be shut off with an “instant stealth” mode, and an HD webcam equipped with a privacy shutter.

Additionally, the Latitude 12 boasts a flip-hinge convertible display, a resistive multi-touch feature that recognizes user interactions with the display even when wearing thick gloves, and an eight-megapixel camera complete with flash.

Both devices are fitted with fourth-generation Intel Core processors, solid state storage, and connectivity options that include mobile broadband and dedicated GPS.

Pricing for the Latitude 12 starts at $3,649 and will be available on May 6. The Latitude 14 starts at $3,499 and will be available in mid-May.
