Cloudera acquires Gazzang

Cloudera acquires Gazzang

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the acquisition means Cloudera will be able to deliver enterprise-grade data encryption and key management to its customers. Customers will now have access to encryption for data stored inside the Hadoop cluster.

Cloudera is planning to make Gazzang an integral part of the Cloudera Centre for Security Excellence, which will be primarily dedicated to Hadoop security.

The Center will focus on developing data and cluster security technologies, providing security testing and certification services, and enabling a partner ecosystem through the development of security integration APIs and the certification of partner products.

“Data security is no longer a checkbox for IT organizations or operations departments, it has become a top business priority,” said Tom Reilly, CEO, Cloudera, in a release. “We’re entering a whole new era with the rise of the Industrial Internet and the Internet of Things where there is vastly more data being streamed from billions of devices. Centralizing and accessing that net-new data to unlock its value is therefore a challenge when you consider the security requirements. That’s what we’re solving now.”

Gazzang’s products will be incorporated into the Cloudera Enterprise offering and will be available immediately to existing customers. Cloudera will also provide support for Gazzang customers.
