The first of these solutions, Cisco Expressway, is designed for collaboration services provided through the Cisco Unified Communications Manager. It offers secure firewall-traversal technology, session-based access to collaboration without a separate VPN client, and complements existing corporate BYOD policies.
It supports a range of devices with Cisco Jabber for smartphones, tablets and desktops, and is a key component of the Cisco Collaboration Edge Architecture.
The second solution, Jabber Guest, uses Expressway’s security capabilities to grant guest access to individuals outside of an organization who wish to communicate with its employees over a web browser or mobile device. It provides a streamlined experience, as guests do not need to register an account to participate, and can be used on browsers or mobile devices.
Another solution that was announced is Cisco Prime Collaboration, which provides a unified management console through which IT administrators can more easily manage Cisco’s collaboration products. The solution lets administrators provision Cisco Unified Communications and Cisco TelePresence through a single interface.
Additionally, it allows for real-time monitoring of voice and video networks, and diagnostics tools, including traffic simulators, can help administrators identify core issues.
“The rise in mobility has opened up new ways in which teams, employees and customers are choosing to connect and collaborate with one another to get things done. The key to success in this new world is having open and accessible communications that cross experiences – whether it be in a physical office, face-to-face through a video call, in a voice call, or in a converged connection through Cisco Jabber,” said Rowan Trollope, senior VP and general manager, Collaboration Technology Group, Cisco.
“With these latest announcements, Cisco is providing customers with a sophisticated collaboration and communication experience that corporate IT expects, while also offering the same intuitiveness and simplicity found in easy-to-use software-based consumer communication tools.”
