Building upon the recent successes of Apple’s iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, Beijing, China-based electronics developer Xiaomi has released a new phone that some tech experts have already billed as China’s answer to the iPhone.
Featuring 5.7-inch screens, the company’s new Mi Note and Mi Note Pro phablets are even lighter than the iPhone 6. Weighing in at just 161 grams, the devices are only 6.95 mm thick.
Scheduled to be released in China on Jan. 27, the Mi Note base model’s screen is a Sharp / JDI 1080p (386 ppi) NEGA LCD, which includes a 95 per cent NTSC color palette. The device also features a 13 megapixel camera, which, unlike that of the iPhone, is flush with the Mi Note’s body.
Although the company currently has no plans to release the Mi Note series in North America, Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun has already hinted that Xiaomi is exploring the possibility of making the smartphone available in emerging mobile technology markets such as Brazil and Russia.
Future releases will see Xiaomi attempt to forge connections with other household appliances and electronics, once again following in the footsteps of Apple.
