CGE Leadership Summit 2015 focuses on data-based decisions, building engaged workforce 

Donald Farmer, vice-president of innovation and design for business intelligence and data visualization software firm Qlik, will provide some fascinating insights on how human behavior impacts our use of data and technologies in the upcoming Canadian Government Executive Leadership Summit 2015 Leading for Results this Nov. 18 at the Westin in Ottawa.

The event is a learning and networking opportunity aimed at program executives and managers in government who seek to better engage employees, clients and citizens and create valuable impact change in their organizations. It is a chance to discover how to effectively employ innovative leadership tools and methods such as Lean, Balanced Scorecard, Organizational Effectiveness, Strategy Maps and Business Intelligence/Business Discovery.

A former leader of Microsoft’s BI products team and a frequent speaker and prolific author and blogger on the topics of BI, data integration and management, Farmer will talk about how biases and personal judgment affects decision making in his keynote presentation entitled: The Human Factor in Analytics – Data, Devices and Decisions.

Also included in the lineup is Meredith Brown, executive director of innovation for the Ontario Government’s Ministry of the Attorney General.

Brown will talk about the IF program and empowering employees to become agents of change.

Through the ministry’s Ideas and Innovation Fund, ministry staffers are able to submit their innovative ideas and see them come to life. Now in its second year, the program has resulted in improved employee engagement and a positive return of investment for the ministry.

John Scherer, a Lutheran chaplain, Gestalt family systems therapist and author of management books who once served as a combat officer who served in a US Navy destroyer, provides a unique view of organizations can achieve maximum performance through the use of an engaged workforce.

Paul Niven, noted speaker and author five books on topics such as Performance Management, the Balanced Scorecard and Strategy, will share some of the key strategy execution solutions he has developed over the years as a practitioner and consultant of performance management.

Roger Oldham, senior director for strategy and transformation at digital advertising agency FCV Interactive and former chief digital officer of the United Kingdom’s Justice Ministry, created the first digital justice strategy and launched the UK’s first digital public service through the award-winning GOV.UK.

Oldman will share his experiences on helping clients rethink organizations and services for the digital age.
