The answer comes in the form of a strategic partnership formed with software developer SAP and was in the spotlight at an event held in Cirque du Soleil’s Montreal international headquarters.
Managing a slew of productions in addition to a large roster of employees can often be a cumbersome process for large companies. As a result, many have turned to cloud-based operations to manage, store and share important data and simplify these processes.
“SAP provides companies with what they need for their business to simplify all of the complexities, and to drive new innovations with their customers, employees and other partners,” said Tim Minahan, CMO of SAP Cloud and Line of Business. “We are delivering that through our mobile platform, our cloud solutions, and the world’s largest mobile business network.”
Implementing SAP’s cloud technology into Cirque du Soleil’s daily operations made sense for the organization. As Bernard Hébert, VP of information and business systems for Cirque du Soleil explains, two key factors influenced this decision.
“There were two main drivers for us,” he said. “The first one was to accelerate the time-to-market. Having solutions that are delivered through the cloud means that we have less architecture and engineering work to do up front, which will bring the solution to the users faster. The second one is the fact that we don’t have to do the entry investment because of the economic model of the cloud.”
Since its inception, Cirque du Soleil has experienced exponential growth in both the number of its shows and the employees responsible for each one. As a result, the company has implemented several of SAP’s solutions to assist with the management of its various productions.
“Today, more than ever, growth is synonymous with innovation at Cirque,” Charles Décarie, COO of Cirque du Soleil explained. “We want this innovation and growth to be rooted in our areas of expertise. For that, we turned to SAP, and applications such as the ARP, or cloud-based solutions such as Concur, Ariba and SuccessFactors.”
Using SAP’s business-focused applications and software has allowed Cirque du Soleil to reach lofty new heights within the entertainment industry, in addition to enhancing the way the company manages its operations, employees, finances and data.
“I would say that just as the magic of Cirque du Soleil has somewhat reinvented the circus and entertainment industries, I believe SAP has reinvented the ways we manage complex businesses,” said Décarie. “SAP might not be on stage with our artists on a daily basis, but it plays an indispensable role in getting them there.”
