Adobe free app turns smartphones into document scanners

Adobe free app turns smartphones into document scanners

Adobe Scan, which is powered by technology from the company’s artificial intelligence and machine learning platform Adobe Sensei, turns phones and tablets into scanning tools that automatically recognizes text.

The app turns text on the scanned document into searchable digital text.

This allows users to highlight words, annotate, and edit them, and send them to the Adobe Document Cloud so that they can be accessed from other devices as well.

“Adobe Scan represents a radical re-imagination of how to capture your most important document content,” said Bryan Lamkin, executive vice president and general manager, digital media at Adobe. “Adobe invented PDF creation for PCs, and with Adobe Scan we’re doing the same for a mobile-first world.”

Users can scan receipts, paper document, business card or whiteboard, or choose an image from their phones camera roll and Adobe Scan can help them auto-crop and capture, carry-out perspective correction and auto-clean, remove shadows and make text crisp and clear.

The app’s automatic text recognition features enable it to automatically convert it into digital text that can be selected, copied or annotated with Acrobat Reader DC or Acrobat DC.  The content then becomes searchable and reusable in a secure and reliable Adobe PDF.

Adobe also unveiled its electronic signature solution Adobe Sign.

Adobe Sign allows users to create secure electronic signatures on any mobile device. Users can even capture a handwritten signature electronically even if their computer is not equipped with a touch-enabled screen.

Other things that Adobe Sign can do are:

• Provide fully customizable email templates for requesting and confirming signatures. The app gives marketing departments control to use the company logo, banner images, custom messages and other visual treatments.

• Lets users add visible business stamps to documents or forms, such as a “received” image or a company seal, or a personal identifier such as a Hanko stamp in Japan.

• Integrates with ServiceNow workflows to help accelerate onboarding and improve customer service. Adobe Sign allows users to send contracts, agreements, and new hire forms directly from ServiceNow.

Adobe Sign can also help businesses cut cost and achieve productivity gains, according to Adobe.

Adobe commissioned a study by Forrester Consulting which found that on behalf of Adobe found that companies experienced benefits of $2 million over three years, with a return on investment of 383 per cent when using Adobe Sign.

Adobe Scan and Adobe Sign are available in Canada now.
